Mission and Purpose
Local Golfers End Poverty
Vow to take on world peace after the back nine!
OK, so it's not a headline you're likely to hear soon. But what if it were possible? With the OneCity Celebrity Pro-Am, we're changing lives in our city one at a time, all the time.
In 2004, OneCity was started with one key goal in mind: invite the non-profits, churches and community organizations that are already doing great things to tackle problems in our city. Literacy, soaring high school drop out rates, prison recidivism and chronic unemployment are core concerns. Helping everyone work together in a proactive, intentional way is our solution. In 2005, Brad and Colleen Johansen joined up with OneCity to help.
As local sports anchor at Channel 12, radio voice of the Bengals and Xavier basketball commentator, Brad Johansen empowered local celebrities and pro athletes to participate, and the Brad Johansen Celebrity Golf Classic was born. Just five years later, the event had raised over a million dollars, garnered PGA golfers including Todd Hamilton, Kenny Perry and Steve Flesch, and was renamed the OneCity Celebrity Pro-Am. What's more, the growth and success of this event over the years enabled us to extend the vision. Proceeds now benefit not just OneCity, but Matthew25 Ministries, Neediest Kids of All, and CancerFree KIDS. The impact of this great event is far-reaching. Its efforts support mentoring, literacy, personal growth, health and hope in our city and beyond.
OneCity is a 5013c non-profit organization.

A Letter from Brad and Colleen Johansen
Five years ago we desperately wanted to be a part of helping OneCity get off the ground. We knew very little about what we were doing but we surrounded ourselves with people who shared our passion for making life better for those in need. We've been reminded recently, from other's stories, that if we'd known (at the outset) the struggles we'd encounter along the way we probably wouldn't have accepted the challenge. God has a way of leading us where we need to go without telling us how difficult it will be so we won't "chicken out". Thank you for being one of the people that helped make a positive change in our community. Because of you, we've gone from a couple that wanted to gather a few thousand dollars to change how we deal with the poor, to making a million-dollar difference in our city. Your commitment to our passion to create positive change has been nothing short of miraculous! Thank you for your friendship and generosity. We truly couldn't have made the journey without you.
—Brad and Colleen Johansen
A Letter from Steve Flesch
For years I have wanted to invite my PGA Tour friends to experience what Cincinnati has to offer. Only now, in partnering with Brad, Colleen, and OneCity, has the opportunity presented itself in such a compelling way that even I couldn't have dreamed of. I had hoped to gather just a few of them to get this started but with what's in place already I am able to bring in 14 of the best players in the world to join me for a spectacular and unique experience for the people in the tri state. I'm thrilled to partner in furthering OneCity's effort to help change our community. I would like to thank my friends on the tour for being a part of this and thank you for joining us in this endeavor.
—Steve Flesch

About OneCity
We work for change
Many organizations in Cincinnati have a heart for serving others. With similar goals and objectives, they often end up competing for the same funds, resources and volunteers. OneCity has a goal too: to elevate and coordinate these efforts for a greater impact. Since 2004, OneCity has engaged churches and thousands of volunteers to work together for positive change. With more than a dozen partners, OneCity helps build and fuel the following initiatives:
WhizKids, a nationally-acclaimed tutoring program, connects churches with elementary schools to break the cycle of poverty for at-risk children;
TeamWorks links career seekers with professional and caring mentors in order to support job placement, retention and self-sufficiency;
StepUp, a mentoring program that helps residents of Hamilton County Correctional Facilities make a positive transition to their communities;
GenerationNext, which helps minority students access and succeed in college through a peer and mentor support structure;
The Outlet, a safe place where the homeless can build positive relationships over music, games and time with volunteers;
CityLink, a multi-service center that will provide an integrated approach to fighting poverty. (Coming mid-2010)
OneCity is fueled by volunteers, and thousands of people around Cincinnati have already joined us to help positively change our city. To find out how you can get on board click here.
